Capability 01 / Web design
Web designthat doesn't justlook good.
Web design
Web design is the practice of shaping a website, shop or application so it carries a brand, fulfills a business goal, and works for every user on every device — fast, clear, accessible. It covers strategy, information architecture, UI, UX, design systems, prototyping and a tight handover to engineering. At soy. webdesign in Stuttgart, every web design project starts with a clear brief and ends with a site that measurably improves conversion, organic visibility and brand perception — GDPR-compliant and accessible to WCAG 2.2 AA.

What professional web design must deliver in 2026
A modern site is no longer a digital flyer — it sells, qualifies leads, carries the brand, ranks on Google and gets cited by AI search engines like ChatGPT or Perplexity. Web design has to do all of that simultaneously, while keeping the client's team able to maintain the content. We design design systems, not isolated mockups: tokens, components and clear rules that translate cleanly into code.
- Strategy over taste: every design choice ties back to a measurable goal.
- Design systems over one-off pages: tokens for color, type, spacing — maintainable in CMS and code.
- Performance-aware: image optimization, layout stability (CLS), fast time-to-interactive.
- Accessible to WCAG 2.2 AA — required by EU EAA / German BFSG since June 2025.

Our process
Five clearly scoped stages, each ending with a decidable deliverable so the project never goes more than two weeks without visible progress.
- Discovery (week 1): brief workshop, competitor + audience analysis, technical audit.
- Concept (week 2): information architecture, key-page wireframes, moodboard.
- Design system (week 3–4): tokens, typography, components, hero page as anchor.
- Designs (week 4–6): all page types, mobile + desktop, hover + interaction states.
- Prototype + handover (week 6–7): clickable prototype, design-token export, frontend brief.

Costs and timeline
Pure web design (no engineering) for SMBs in Germany 2026 typically lands at €4,000 (landing page), €9,000–18,000 (standard 5–12 page-type site), or €22,000–45,000 (complex platform, shop, multi-locale portal). Premium award-tier studios start above €60,000. The main price driver isn't page count — it's design-system depth and bespoke component count.

Accessibility
Since 28 June 2025, many B2C sites in the EU are legally required to meet the European Accessibility Act / German BFSG. We design to WCAG 2.2 AA from the start: color contrast, keyboard nav, focus visibility, semantic HTML, alt text, captions. The investment doubles as SEO and AI-search uplift.
FAQ
Antworten, bevor du fragst.
How much does professional web design cost?
A typical SMB web design project in 2026 runs €9,000–18,000. A landing page starts at €4,000; a multi-locale portal can reach €22,000–45,000. Price is mostly driven by design-system depth and component count, not raw page count.
How long does web design take?
Standard site: 4–7 weeks. Landing page: 2–3 weeks. Complex portal: 8–12 weeks. We ship in two-week sprints so progress is visible every fortnight.
What's the difference between web design and web development?
Web design shapes the visual + interactive system — layouts, color, typography, components, flow. Web development implements that in code that runs in browsers, talks to a CMS and is understood by search engines. We deliver both from one studio so nothing gets lost in handover.
Does my site have to be accessible since 2025?
Most likely yes. The European Accessibility Act applies from 28.06.2025 to many B2C sites and shops. We design every project to WCAG 2.2 AA.
Do you do redesigns and relaunches?
Yes. We start with audits (analytics, heatmaps, SEO health, current design state), then redesign with focus on the weakest points. URLs and SEO equity are preserved through clean redirects.
Which CMS do you support?
Headless: Payload CMS, Sanity, Strapi. Classic: WordPress with Gutenberg (no page builders). E-commerce: Gambio (own modules), Shopware. We design the editor experience along with the front so editors can ship without us.
Can our team evolve the design system later?
Yes — that's the goal. We hand over tokens (color, type, spacing) as JSON, documented components, and a maintenance briefing. Optional: we keep maintaining via a monthly retainer.
What happens after the design phase?
Engineering builds it into production code. With us that's seamless — design + dev live in the same studio. Post-launch: 4-week stabilization, then optional maintenance retainer from €290/month.
